St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital is set to embark on the largest development in the hospital’s 107 year history. Owners Ramsay Health Care approved a $64 million dollar investment in the facility this week, ensuring that Ipswich patients have adequate and timely access to private health care services into the future.

The new development will see the opening of the first private Emergency Centre within the Ipswich and West Moreton Region. Patients and their families will no longer have to travel to Brisbane to receive private emergency care.

A new intensive care unit will support the Emergency Centre and expanding surgical services via the addition of two operating theatres, with an accompanying 81 new private patient rooms; increasing the capacity of the hospital from 97 to 178 total beds.

Maternity and Paediatric services are at the forefront of redevelopment plans; with a predicted 5% population growth to occur within the region by 2031. A new 26 bed Maternity Unit will provide young families with quality local obstetric and paediatric services, supported by three new labour delivery suites.

Rehabilitation services will also benefit from the project, with the redesign facilitating the provision of a 21 bed rehabilitation ward with accompanying gymnasium.

A new multi-deck car park will also provide plenty of on-campus parking, promoting easy access to the hospital. The redevelopment will also provide a new front entry, expanded reception areas and retail support space.

Hospital CEO Chris Went commented that the new development would create job opportunities and growth within a myriad of Ipswich industries. An increase in private health care services, together with services provided by the Ipswich Public Hospital, would cement the major medical precinct which has been created in the Ipswich Central Business District.

“This is an exciting next step for St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital and the Ipswich Community. The multimillion dollar development will attract new specialists and health care professionals to the region. Patients will have access to top quality care and services close to home.”

“This project will ensure that necessary services are available in Ipswich to better provide for the growing health care needs of the whole region.”

“St Andrew’s Ipswich has previously demonstrated its commitment to providing quality health care services in the region with the introduction of cardiology, chemotherapy and haematology services and advancements in neurosurgery for back pain. The establishment of a new private Emergency Centre and expansion of existing units will ensure we are competent to deliver quality services into the future.”

Mrs Went noted that the redevelopment of St Andrew’s Ipswich would provide improved facilities for the entire Ipswich and West Moreton Region. The redevelopment will inject funds into the local economy, and create local jobs during construction and post completion. It is also estimated, approximately 300 hospital roles, clinical and non-clinical, will be created.

Ramsay Health Care Managing Director Chris Rex said that the Company was very confident in the growth of the Ipswich and West Moreton Region.

“Following Ramsay Health Care Acquisition in 2005, St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital, has confirmed itself as a quality provider of private health care services of the region. Together with previous investments, this redevelopment will ensure that the hospital is placed to meet the growing demands of the community into the future.”

“We are very pleased to be investing in a project that will inject growth into the local economy and create job opportunities in various industries.”
