Rehabilitation for your best life

Rehabilitation Services

St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital’s Rehabilitation Services provide excellence in multidisciplinary, patient-focused care through a holistic approach, with a support team which may include doctors, nurses and allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, dietitians and more.

Our philosophy is that rehabilitation involves active participation of you the patient, your family and our team to achieve patient-centred goals that are meaningful and achievable. We work together step-by-step, to help you live your best life possible and as independently as possible following surgery, illness, accident or managing a health condition.

We help support your health care goals and fitness to enhance a safe return to work, sport and recreation or transition back into the community after illness or injury.

As well as Inpatient rehabilitation for patients who require 24-hour medical and nursing care, we offer a variety of Day Patient Rehabilitation Programs.

Day Patient Rehabilitation

Day Rehabilitation involves individually tailored rehabilitation in a friendly and empowering group environment.

Who would benefit?

Day patient rehabilitation programs are for any person who has had an illness, accident, surgery or is managing a health condition and requires a multidisciplinary team approach to assist with their recovery. Programs are designed to help you recover and assist you to live independently in the community or prepare to return to leisure, work or other lifestyle pursuits.

We run two main programs:

Reconditioning Day Rehabilitation Program

Do you need to regain strength and endurance?

Our Reconditioning Day Rehabilitation Program is designed for patients who:

  • need treatment to improve strength, endurance and balance
  • need to improve their ability to do everyday activities
  • have recently experienced an acute episode of illness
  • undergone a surgical procedure
  • are recovering after a fall and require therapy to regain confidence in mobility and everyday activities
  • have a chronic medical condition.

Orthopaedic Day Rehabilitation Program

Do you need help with walking or everyday activities?

Our Orthopaedic Day Rehabilitation Program is tailored for patients who:

  • who have undergone joint replacement surgery
  • have suffered a recent fracture or traumatic orthopaedic injury
  • need treatment to improve strength, endurance and balance
  • need to improve the way they walk
  • need to improve their ability to do everyday activities.

What do the Day Programs involve?

You will be assessed by a rehabilitation specialist before starting the rehabilitation program. Once accepted, allied health professionals will tailor an individualised therapy program to suit your goals.

Programs may include input from physiotherapy, exercise physiology, occupational therapy, dietetics, and more, depending on requirements.

How long is a Day Program?

Frequency and length of the program is determined by your needs but is generally 3 hours, twice a week for between 4 to 6 weeks. You will be advised of your appointment times when booking.

What will it cost?

In most instances private health insurance or Department of Veterans Affairs will cover the cost of the program. We always check with the health fund to make sure there is no excess or co-payment and if there is, we discuss this with you before proceeding.

How can I access the program?

Day Rehabilitation is available to eligible privately insured and veteran patients from within St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital, other hospitals, and directly from the community. A referral is required from your General Practitioner or specialist – see below.
