Antenatal Classes
St Andrews Private Hospital is committed to providing a comprehensive childbirth and parenting program to prepare parents for the birth of their child. All of our educators are registered midwives and are employed within our maternity unit. Our aim is to ensure you and your partner feel confident, prepared and informed prior to your new arrival.
About the Class
Our program is designed to provide information that will prepare you for labour, the birth and care of your newborn. It also allows the opportunity for us to help you with any questions or concerns that you or support person may have.
Class topics include:
- When to come to hospital
- Labour
- Birth
- Caesarean section
- The role of your support person
- Positions for active labour
- Options for pain relief
- Feeding and caring for your baby
Booking
We recommend booking your desired class midway through your pregnancy to ensure your preferred place. An ideal time to attend your classes is from 28 weeks gestation and onwards, this will help you to retain the information given in the class. Class numbers are restricted to maintain a personal and conducive teaching environment.
To book we will need you to submit your maternity online admission booking form. We are unable to accept class bookings until we receive your admission details.

Your booked education class of your choice includes:
- Admission to a chosen class for you and one additional guest
- Light refreshments
- Complimentary parking onsite available.

Prices
Depending on your health fund we may be able to bill this to your fund directly. Please liaise with your health fund, or speak with our Maternity Reception staff on 3816 9360 to determine your health fund benefit.
Payment is required to secure your place in the class. Payments not covered by Health Fund may be made via our Billings Department by Credit Card by phone 07-3816 9916.
Health and Wellbeing
We ask that you or your support person do not attend classes if you are unwell or suffering from known diseases such as chickenpox, measles or shingles.
