St Andrew’s Stents First Patient!

Jul 31, 2015

St Andrew’s cardiac catheter laboratory became operational in January 2014 with only diagnostic angiography being performed until this time. On Friday 19th September St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital performed the region’s first interventional cardiac procedure.

‘I am delighted to announce that St Andrew’s has inserted their first coronary stent. This is a significant milestone in the delivery of cardiac services for Ipswich and surrounds. St Andrew’s is now positioned to provide diagnostic and interventional cardiac services. Cardiac blockages can now be identified and treated locally through the insertion of stents.” said Chris Went, St Andrew’s CEO.

“The hospital was required to demonstrate service capability before being granted authority to perform interventional procedures. We are thrilled to have been permitted to move our cardiac catheter laboratory into its next phase of service delivery.”

St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital has a dedicated team of 10 cardiologists that service the Ipswich and West Moreton Region. This team provides an on-call roster; ensuring that private patients have access to cardiac care at all hours.

The hospital, owned by Ramsay Health Care, continues to grow and meet the needs of the Ipswich and West Moreton Region with further capacity and expansion predicted over the coming years.
