Dr Morton received MBBS from the University of Queensland in 1987 (University Gold Medal). He completed general internal medicine training in 1991. He commenced specialist training in clinical haematology and stem cell transplantation at the Royal Brisbane and Mater Hospitals during 1992 – 1995. From 1996 - 1997 Dr Morton was the International Fellow at the prestigious Fred Hutchinson Cancer Centre, Seattle.

In 1998 Dr Morton returned to Australia as Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, Brisbane. Dr Morton's particular clinical interests include leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, stem cell transplantation and clinical apheresis. He has published widely in these fields.

Dr Morton joined Haematology & Oncology Clinics of Australasia in 1997, now Icon Cancer Care, and practices from their South Brisbane and Chermside day hospitals.
