St Andrew's Ipswich Private Hospital specialist Peter Coverdale

Dr Peter Coverdale

Having grown up in in rural NSW Peter moved to Brisbane to attend university and undertook medical training at the University of Queensland; prior to commencing surgical training. His surgical training saw him work throughout South East and Far North Queensland and into the Northern Territory.

Upon obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Peter relocated to the Northern Territory in 2015; where he worked at the Royal Darwin Hospital as a Fellow, before becoming a Consultant Surgeon and the Director of Acute Surgical Services (in between fishing trips!).

Peter worked at the Tertiary Trauma Centre in addition to several remote hospitals such as Gove District Hospital and Katherine Base Hospital; to provide remote Indigenous Communities with essential surgical services.

In 2017 Peter undertook a Fellowship in Upper Gastrointestinal, Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Tweed Heads and John Flynn Private Hospitals. Earlier this year he commenced work at Ipswich Hospital as a Staff Specialist and has recently joined the St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital team.

Peter’s interests are Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Endoscopy (GESA accredited colonoscopy and gastroscopy), and Laparoscopic Hernia Repair. He has a keen interest in providing rural and remote surgical services, which he continues to pursue at every opportunity.
