Dr Basedow is a Queensland-trained General Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in upper gastrointestinal surgery, endoscopy, minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, hernia surgery, and complex abdominal surgery. He is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, patient-centred care with a strong focus on clear communication and timely access to specialist surgical services.
After graduating from the University of Queensland in 2008, Dr Basedow completed his General Surgical training across Queensland before being awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2019. His early clinical experience in regional Queensland and Cape York fostered a strong commitment to improving access to specialist care for rural and regional communities.
Following Fellowship, Dr Basedow was selected for the RACS New Fellow Rural Program, providing specialist surgical services throughout Far North Queensland, including outreach clinics and operating lists across Cape York and the Torres Strait. He subsequently completed an advanced Trauma Surgery Fellowship at a Level 1 Trauma Centre in Toronto, Canada, gaining extensive experience in the management of critically ill patients and complex surgical emergencies.
Dr Basedow provides comprehensive assessment and management of a broad range of upper gastrointestinal and general surgical conditions.
Dr Basedow is passionate about working collaboratively with general practitioners to provide timely specialist assessment, individualised treatment plans, and seamless communication throughout each patient's care. Referrals for both routine and urgent surgical conditions are welcome, and he is always happy to provide advice regarding appropriate management.
